Government names trailblazers to lead independent disability research group

The appointment of a new chair and CEO has been announced for the National Disability Research Partnership (NDRP) — an Australian-first entity co-led by people with disability.

Clare Gibellini has been named NDRP chair and Mary Sayers is the inaugural CEO.

Announcing the appointments on Monday, Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth said Gibellini was an Autistic Australian with deep advocacy and leadership experience.

“The NDRP will support research that includes a wide range of people with disability, including those who are often left out or not well represented,” Rishworth said, noting Gibellini would lead a board made up of a majority of people with disability.

“I am so pleased Ms Gibellini has accepted my offer to chair the NDRP and I am confident she has the expertise to realise its vision.”

According to the minister, Gibellini’s role as chair was vital because the government wanted to ensure people with disability were at the centre of the policies and programs impacting them.
