OUR WORK PLAN

NDRP 2025–2026 Work Plan: Building on strong foundations

Our 2025–2026 Work Plan builds on the valuable insights and strong foundations established during NDRP's first year of operations.

This work plan reflects lessons learned and community feedback drawn from our foundational year.

It positions the NDRP to continue supporting disability-led research across Australia.

The 2025–2026 Work Plan introduces:

  • new opportunities, including research fellowships

  • a program to fund and support research higher degree students

  • research capacity strengthening opportunities.

Following our initial two-year funding agreement, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has extended our agreement for a further year to June 2027.

This means we can continue to deliver the NDRP vision: that disability-led research transforms policy and practice in Australia.

KEY ANNOUNCEMENTS

The NDRP Research Funding Round 2: Safety of People with Disability will now open in February 2026 (previously October 2025).

This is to make sure that research teams will have enough time to prepare thorough funding applications, and the NDRP team can continue to provide capacity strengthening support to current and potential research teams.

WHAT THIS MEANS

We are creating Australia's largest network of disability researchers focused on the NDRP’s Research Agenda, aiming to build leadership capacity by and with people with disability right from the start.

Our 2025 Research Funding Round 1 funded co-design projects on safety of people with disability spanning First Nations women, Indigenous people in prison, people from refugee communities, trans and gender-diverse people, families and children experiencing family violence, and people living in regional and rural areas.

We've also built the infrastructure for lasting change, appointing Board Directors nominated by disability representative organisations, establishing our Research Committee, and creating partnerships that will drive research impact for years to come.
