NDRP 2025–2026 Work Plan

 

Strategic Focus Area 1: Build a sustainable foundation

 

Engage, collaborate and build long term partnerships.

 

​Timeline: July 2025 to June 2026 (ongoing)

Activities: Deeply engage with and partner with the disability community, disabled persons and representative organisations, researchers, universities, government and other organisations.

Timeline: October 2025 to June 2026 (ongoing)

Activities: Implement NDRP’s Membership Strategy.

Secure ongoing funding and support for the NDRP as an enduring enabler for disability led and inclusive research, strengthening capacity and evidence to action.

 

Timeline: July 2025 to June 2026 (ongoing)

Activities: Work closely with funders including the Australian Government, state and territory government and other funders to secure the ongoing funding and resourcing for the NDRP.

 

Strategic Focus Area 2: Fund research done by and with people with disability

 

Fund research aligned to the NDRP Research Agenda.

 

Timeline: October 2025 to April 2026

Activities: Develop and implement research capacity strengthening activities in the lead up to funding round.

Timeline: January to April 2026

Activities: Open Round 2 Research Funding – Safety of people with disability.

Partner with governments and other external agencies

 

Timeline: July 2025 to June 2026 (ongoing)

Activities: Fund and commission research guided by the research agenda. Implement commissioned research pilot on the topic of "Supporting transitions from education/training into employment" in line with NDRP guiding principles.

 

Strategic Focus Area 3: Strengthen disability research capacity

 

Advocate for, facilitate, and fund initiatives to increase the pool of researchers with disability

 

Timeline: July 2025 to June 2026 (ongoing)

Activities: Develop and implement a program to fund and support research fellowships and scholarships for people with disability.

 

Timeline: October 2025 to January 2026

Activities: Open funding round for Masters and PhD scholarships program.

 

Timeline: January to March 2026

Activities: Open funding round for Research Fellowships.

Foster institutional and systemic enablers for disability led and inclusive research

 

Timeline: January to June 2026 (ongoing)

Activities: Commission and develop projects to address institutional and systemic barriers including developing quality standards for inclusive research, barriers to inclusive ethics, equity for researchers with disability in universities.

 

Enhance capacity for disability led and inclusive research

 

Timeline: July 2025 to June 2026 (ongoing)

Activities include:

  • Facilitate communities of practice for NDRP research funding recipients.

  • Foster disability inclusive research by developing and sharing tools, resources and learning approaches for inclusive research.

 

Timeline: July 2025 to April 2026 (ongoing)

Activities include:

  • Work with Disability Representative Organisations to implement recommendations from the Disability Advocacy Network Australia "Co-design partnerships: A mutual exchange" report.

 

Strategic Focus Area 4: Mobilise evidence for action

 

Improve the accessibility and availability of evidence related to disability

 

Timeline: July 2025 to June 2026 (ongoing)

Activities include:

  • Fund the APO Disability Research Collection.

  • Synthesise and share evidence related to NDRP Research Agenda in accessible formats.

 

Strengthen capacity for the use of evidence in policy and practice

 

Timeline: July 2025 to June 2026 (ongoing)

Activities include:

  • Hold quarterly Evidence to Action events to bring together people with disability and their organisations, researchers, government and others to mobilise knowledge, discuss the evidence base, and identify evidence gaps.

  • Work with funded research teams and the disability research ecosystem to facilitate knowledge mobilisation.
